Jessica Alsman is back! Though you hear her every week on the show, this is her 2nd time as a full fledged guest. She’s also the only guest so far to have talked about a current “new release” film on the show. But now, we delve into one of her favorites and one important to her growing up.
A League Of Their Own is beloved by man. “There’s no crying in baseball” is one of the best and most remembered lines in film history. It took the box office by storm in 1991 and has since been deemed historically significant by the National Film Registry. Little remembered, but it also spawned a television series that followed the events of the film, only running 5 episodes before striking out leaving a player on base (They shot 6 episodes total).
Jessica was a collegiate softball athlete and all through her life this film resonated with her and connected. She talks about how it meant the world to softball players by endlessly quoting, trying to figure out who on their team would be certain characters in the film and more.
Personally, I made a great rediscovery and reappraisal of my own when it arrived as part of Sony’s Columbia Classics Volume 1 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray box set last year. It truly is one of our all time great films and one truly meaningful to all ages and one that you just can’t help but love.
