The Brandon Peters Show: Grosse Pointe Blank

My next guest perfectly compliments and follows up with the premiere episode. When I began writing for Mendelson’s Memos, I had a list of things I was hoping to achieve through my film writing. One of which was to guest on a podcast to talk about film and what have you. After my second or third essay on the James Bond series published on Scott’s site, Aaron Neuwirth reached out to me and asked if I’d be interested in…guesting on his podcast. I never expected that goal to be achieved so quickly as much as I never anticipated how involved I’d be in his show and podcasting going forward.

An audio commentary track for From Russia With Love was my debut on Out Now With Aaron and Abe and the world of podcasting. All came equipped with at the time was a laptop microphone and my conversational film knowledge and skills. It went quite well, leading us to do 4 total James Bond commentaries that fall as well as the Skyfall episode for the weekly installment of the show. From then on, I just never left the show and remain doing a commentary track once a month as well as the October horror specials and Summer Gamble series.

When I met Aaron Neuwirth he was a writer for Why So Blu. Since I’ve known him, I’ve watched him blossom into one of the best and underutilized talents in film criticism. He’s now a senior editor at We Live Entertainment and contributes to variety while being a member of the Hollywood Criticas Association. We’ve podcasted a lot together in 8 years and I value him as much as a friend as I do a colleague. He’s had a significant impact on my entertainment perspective as well as my writing mentality.

Early on, Aaron and I found we both shared a love for 1997’s Grosse Pointe Blank that both falls as one of our favorite films of all time (His actual favorite). I’ve tried to get him to discuss it in podcast form as a commentary track for years. He’s turned me down every time. And with my previous show, the film didn’t fit the bill. But now, with this new show…well, its time. POPCORN!

The Brandon Peters Show will return tomorrow (9/29) with 4K BLUsday.
