The Summer of 2004 at 20 is a weekly retrospective journey through American pop culture during May, June, July and August of 1993. Brandon Peters, The Wrap’s Scott Mendelson and We Live Entertainment/Out Now with Aaron and Abe’s Aaron Neuwirth take a weekend by weekend look at the films released during the summer as well as the news stories, television and music that rounded out the public’s lives as they lined the pockets of the box office to see these movies.
July 30-August 1, 2004: One of the most popular modern auteurs of the time, M. Night Shyamalan drops his latest effort with The Village to go along with a high profile remake with Denzel Washington & Meryl Streep in The Manchurian Candidate, stoner comedy classic Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle debuts…all alongside possibly one of the worst films/adaptations we’ve seen – Thunderbirds!
We’ll also be discussing the box office report, notable news stories, the top 10 Nielsen rated tv programs for the week and the top 10 of Ryan Seacrest’s weekly American top 40 from the week these films were released. And 2 indies – Maria Full of Grace and The Door In The Floor – round out our week.
